Throughout the year, the American Lung Association hosts multiple stairclimbs throughout the United States. These events help raise awareness and donations to support research on lung disease and promote clean air. Every year hundreds of firefighters are diagnosed with dehabilitating lung diseases, directly related their exposure to hazardous smoke and fumes. Therefore in support of our fellow brothers & sisters, members of the Williston Fire Department annually take part in the Fight For Air Stairclimbs.
This year, while attending graduate school in Boston, Massachusetts, FF/EMT Ben Burdet was able to take part in the Fight For Air Climb up One Boston Place. FF/EMT Burdet was joined by firefighters from the Malletts Bay Fire Department and Allenstown Fire Department (of Allenstown, NH). Together the group ascended the Boston skyscraper, climbing a total of 82 flights of stairs (42 stories or 789 stairs), while wearing complete firefighter turnout gear, which includes an SCBA, for a approximate total weight of 60-70lbs.
The 'High-Rise Pack' Team conisited of:

Combined the team raised over $1000 in donations for the American Lung Association. Thank you to all those who donated in support!

Fourteen weeks ago, Call Fire Lieutenant Whitney King started his professional journey in becoming a career firefighter with the Norwalk Fire Department of Norwalk Connecticut. He, along with three others were selected to become the 48th class enrolled at the Connecticut Fire Academy. The academy sets forth a grueling training regiment utilized to train, test, and instruct them in meeting the demands and requirement of their chosen career. Finally after 14 long weeks of training and preparing were over, Whitney along with his classmates were sworn in as Norwalk Firefighters in a ceremony held Christmas Day.
Whitney's strong leadership ability, outgoing personality, and dedicated demeanor will become a great asset to the Norwalk Fire Department. During his time at the Williston Fire Department as Call Officer and Firefighter/EMT, he made considerable growth from the first time he stepped on a truck, to the last time he hung up his helmet. Whitney had become an integral member who was extremely capable and versatile within much of the trade. His drive to constantly and continually improve himself was evident through numerous hours of continued education, sponsored training classes and hands-on training with other members around the station. So dedicated was he, that to even remain an asset to WFD during his transition, he remained on the department to help with shift coverage on weekends, when he was home from the academy.
Whitney King we wish you the best of luck in your new endeavors and hope that you may go forward from Williston with skills and knowledge that will help you achieve in life, such that you might save the life of another. Thank you for your four wonderful years of service to the Town of Williston, we will miss you and the light you shared with all of us in Williston.

10 Year Anniversary September 11th Memorial |

On Sunday both the Williston Fire Department and Williston Police Department held a short ceremony to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.
In the ceremony the fire department displayed 343 flags to honor the 343 FDNY Firefighters who gave their lives that day, while the police department displayed 60 flags to honor the 23 members of the NYPD, and 37 members of the Port Authority Police Department.

On the morning of June 14th, a flatbed truck from KME arrived at the Williston Fire Department to transport Engine 2 to its New York service center for warranty paint work. Since the winter large areas of paint on Engine 2 had been bubbling and cracking after only about 6 months of service. While at service, the entire truck will be sand blasted, then repainted, inspected, and returned. Until then Engine 3 will serve as the first due engine, followed by Engine 1. In the case of a motor vehicle accident, Utility 1 will respond with the needed extrication equipment in support of Engine 3. It is expected that Engine 2 will return to Williston in the late fall.
